Frontier AI Researchers Ask Government to Take the Lead on Pacing Development
More than 1,350 researchers from across the leading labs, including figures from OpenAI, Anthropic and Google, signed an open letter called "Pacing the Frontier," asking the U.S. government to help develop the tools needed to deliberately pace frontier AI development. The letter reflects a growing view inside the labs themselves that competition is outrunning the industry's ability to keep the technology safe, a dynamic increasingly compared to a prisoner's dilemma.
